  • Diabetes Opportunity Assessment

A leading global biopharmaceutical company with an established diabetes franchise sought growth opportunities through the acquisition of promising assets. Clarion’s charge: to conduct a thorough disease landscape assessment, identifying potential acquisition candidates in therapeutics, diagnostics, devices and nutraceuticals.

Working with the client’s cross-functional team – including senior representatives from clinical, regulatory, marketing, commercial, discovery research and medical device areas – Clarion conducted critical primary research to determine the best approach for expansion. The research spanned interviews with key opinion leaders, clinicians, researchers and patients to identify unmet needs and promising opportunities, and investigation of existing and emerging treatment classes. Clarion considered the full range of disease management opportunities available and under development, including blood glucose monitoring, data management, diet and therapeutics.

Clarion’s research led to the formulation of strategic recommendations for both internal investments and potential asset acquisitions based on strong commercial opportunity, clinical potential and fit with the client’s corporate strategy. With broad support from senior leadership within several key functions, these recommendations led the client to several critical actions toward enhancing and expanding its diabetes franchise. As a result, the client acquired one of the recommended assets within a year of its initial engagement with Clarion and launched several ongoing partnership discussions.
